In the 1970s, serial killer Rodney Alcala (Daniel Zovatto) has lured women by posing as a photographer looking for models. Although already a registered sex offender and recently released from prison for sexually assaulting and beating an eight-year-old girl, he's chosen to appear on The Dating Game, a show that introduces a set of three new bachelors on each episode, who are hidden from view as a woman asks them amusing questions, then chooses a winner to go on an all-expenses-paid trip with her.
Cheryl Bradshaw (Anna Kendrick) is the bachelorette on the day Rodney Alcala appears on the show. She liked his answers and playful attitude and chose him, after his charm and good looks landed him a spot on the show — at a time when background checks weren't yet mandatory at the ABC network.
Based on a true story.
